Denver, Colorado FasTracks information

Interested in what is going on with the Fastracks program?

FasTracks Moving Full-Speed Ahead

Four years into the 12-year FasTracks transit expansion build-out, many of you are looking for signs of progress. These signs have already started to take shape along the West Corridor line through Denver and Lakewood, where construction crews have been clearing the path for the rail line and building new bridges to carry trains and pedestrians. However, with major construction on the majority of the FasTracks lines still one to two years away, it's important to take note of the major, less-visible work that has already taken place.

In 2009, FasTracks is right on schedule for completion of the entire system by 2017. As we continue to work through the financial challenges and seek additional funding to complete the program, rest assured that FasTracks is moving full-speed ahead!

Cinco De Mayo in Denver, CO

by Roberts Johnson and Rachel Diedrich, Real Estate B

As May is upon us, so is Cinco de Mayo. This year's celebration will take place on the weekend of May 9th and 10th at Civic Center Park from 10a.m. to 8p.m. The event will be highlighted by three large stages of entertainment; 350 exhibitors of food vendors serving up the best in Colorado Mexican Cuisine; a children's carnival; free samples and tons of giveaways; a green chili bowl cook off; interactive sponsor exhibits and much more. By design, the special cultural series highlights Latino cultures, while also incorporating the beauty of all cultures.  Historically, this date represents the victory of the Mexican Army over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla. It has become a day of celebration of Mexican pride and heritage. This will surely be a weekend of high spirits as we join together to celebrate a culture's rich and vibrant history.

Denver Memorial Day Parade

by Roberts Johnson and Rachel Diedrich, Real Estate B

Memorial Day Parade

Amongst the high spirits, barbeques and beer, it is often easy to forget the true purpose of Memorial Day. It is important to remember that it pays homage to the fallen soldiers and veterans of wars past and present. Veterans, families and the general public will once again celebrate Memorial Day at the state capital with a parade, events and a sit-down holiday ceremony at the Colorado Veterans Monument. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a wreath placement at the Monument altar stone by VFW 2461, followed at 10 a.m. by the Memorial Day Parade, and concluded at 11 a.m. with a Memorial Day Tribute to all veterans - in particular those Colorado Heroes killed in action. Please enjoy responsibly and be sure to think about those who continue to fight for our country.

5 Points Jazz Festival in Denver, CO

by Roberts Johnson and Rachel Diedrich, Real Estate B

"Cool, Crazy, & Hot!" - Five Points Jazz Festival

If the legendary Five Points DJ Leroy Smith were still around he would surely describe this upcoming event as nothing but "Cool, Crazy and Hot!" Jazz runs deep in Denver, and any exploration of the Mile High City's jazz history has to begin in Five Points. Originally dubbed "Harlem of the West", Five Points has a rich history of music and culture that began with its founding in the 1860s.

Today those hot Five Points sounds of yesteryear continue to be heard at the annual Five Points Jazz Festival , a free celebration of this vital part of Denver's history. This year's festival kicks off on May 16th at numerous venues along Welton Street. Denver's finest jazz musicians will be performing, along with talks and tributes from jazz experts and historians; children's activities; food, drink and much more. It's an old school Five Points block party that shouldn't be missed.

Rockies Rides: Rides to Rockies games in down town Denver

by Roberts Johnson and Rachel Diedrich, Real Estate B

RTD is once again offering RockiesRide services to all weekend 2009 home games, as well as select weekday games. RockiesRide is RTD's direct bus service to Coors Field from 14 metro area locations, including 13 park-n-Ride lots and Boulder High School.  Every RockiesRide bus is noted by the letter "R" accompanying each route number (e.g. Route 120R). Buses depart from the designated locations 60 to 115 minutes before game time and drop passengers off in front of Coors Field at the parking lot on 22nd and Blake, placing riders at the ballpark 30-60 minutes before the first pitch. Upon arrival at the stadium, passengers should listen for the driver to announce the row assignment for their trip home. After the game, riders simply return to the parking lot at 22nd and Blake, locate the assigned row number, check the route number and hop on board. RockiesRide buses depart as they fill up, with the last bus leaving 45 minutes after the game ends. This service is not only efficient and reliable, but it also goes a long way toward creating a more sustainable and safer way to travel to and from the fabulous Coors Field.
